Demonstration sites
Demonstration sites are an excellent way to
show how farm forestry can be successful. STFFN has been fortunate
in securing funding through the Natural Heritage Trust to establish
and manage a number of farm forestry demonstration sites.
The demonstrations have been designed to illustrate
different components of farm forestry and will be used as sites
for field days held by STFFN. The sites will also provide valuable
information on what species have survived and how well they are
growing. This information will be made available to other landholders
and Landcare groups within the region.
The landholders are responsible for the day
to day management of the demonstration sites with assistance from
STFFN when required. Part of the aim of the demonstration sites
is to ensure the landholder involved develops a thorough understanding
of establishing and managing trees.
Three demonstration projects were funded by
the Natural Heritage Trust:
- Farm forestry demonstration site for the
Boorowa region ($7117.00);
- Farm forestry demonstration sites for the
Southern Tablelands ($38,664.00); and
- Windbreak / Shelterbelt designs for farm
forestry ($3,852.00).
The demonstrations located on each property
are as follows:
'Dranoel', Frogmore:
Native species and establishment techniques
demonstration site using natives and radiata pines.
'Windermere', Hoskinstown:
Native species, Establishment techniques
and radiata pine management demonstration.
'Tullyvale', Yass:
Native species and Radiata pine demonstration
'Sunning Hill', Windellama:
Native species trial, establishment techniques
and radiata pine management demonstration
'Woodlands', Bungendore:
Pines to control serrated tussock demonstration
and managed windbreak demonstration.
'Little Bombay', Braidwood:
Effects of gypsum on radiata pine
Narrawa Landcare, Narrawa:
Farm forestry and acid soil demonstration.
'Kalbilli', Mt Fairy:
Farm forestry species demonstration including
natives and pines.
Mongarlowe Landcare, Mongarlowe:

For the latest information on the progress
of these sites or to arrange a visit to inspect them please contact
STFFN.
